About the Unlock PDF
Unlocking a PDF removes its open password so it no longer asks for one every time it is opened. This tool only removes a password you already know - type it in once, and a new copy of the PDF is created without it. It does not crack, guess or bypass a password you do not have, since that would make the protection pointless.
How to use the Unlock PDF
- Choose the password-protected PDF.
- Type the password.
- Click Unlock PDF.
- Download the copy with no password.
Features
- Removes the open password from a PDF you can already open
- Does not crack, guess or bypass unknown passwords
- Works entirely in your browser - the PDF is never uploaded
- Download a normal PDF that opens without a prompt
- No watermark, no page limit
Why do I need to type the password?
This tool decrypts a PDF using the same password that already opens it, rather than attempting to break the encryption. If you do not know the password, this tool cannot help - there is no reliable or responsible way to recover it.
Is this different from Protect PDF?
Protect PDF adds a password to a PDF that does not have one. Unlock PDF does the opposite: it removes a password from a PDF that already has one, as long as you provide it.
Frequently asked questions
Can this tool crack or guess a PDF password?
No. It only removes a password you type in yourself. If you do not know the password, there is no legitimate way for this tool, or any tool, to recover it for you.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The password is checked and removed entirely in your browser using a WebAssembly build of the open-source QPDF library, and the file never leaves your device.
What if I enter the wrong password?
You will see an "Incorrect password" message and can try again. The file itself is never altered until the correct password successfully unlocks it.
Does unlocking change anything else in the PDF?
No. Only the password protection is removed; the pages, text and images stay exactly as they were.
