What is the Watermark PDF tool?

Watermarking a PDF stamps text (such as "CONFIDENTIAL" or "DRAFT") or a logo image across the pages, usually at low opacity, to mark ownership, status or draft stage. Type a word or two, or upload a PNG or JPG logo, then set its colour or size, opacity, rotation and position. A live preview shows exactly how the first page will look before you apply it to the whole document. Everything runs in your browser, so the PDF is never uploaded.

How to use the Watermark PDF tool

  1. Choose the PDF you want to watermark.
  2. Pick Text or Logo/Image and set its text, colour or upload an image.
  3. Set the opacity, rotation and position (centre, a corner, or tiled across the page).
  4. Check the live preview, then choose which pages get the watermark.
  5. Click Add Watermark and download the result.

Features

  • Text watermark with your own wording, colour, size and bold
  • Image or logo watermark from a PNG or JPG file
  • Opacity and rotation, diagonal by default
  • Position: centre, any corner, or tiled across the page
  • Apply to all pages, odd or even pages, a page range, or every page but the first
  • Live preview of the first page before you download
  • Behind the content as a background watermark, or on top
  • Optional flatten, so the watermark can’t be removed

Why add a watermark to a PDF?

A watermark marks a document as a draft, confidential, sample or the property of a person or company before it is shared. A faint diagonal stamp across every page is hard to miss but does not block the content underneath, which is why low opacity and a rotated angle are the usual defaults.

Text or image watermark - which to choose?

A short word or phrase (DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, SAMPLE, a company name) works well as text, needs no image file, and matches the rest of the document's typography when kept plain. A logo image is better when the watermark needs to show a specific brand mark - a PNG with a transparent background looks cleanest since there is no coloured box around it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I control how visible the watermark is?

Yes. The opacity slider goes from barely visible to fully solid, and the live preview shows the result before you download.

Does the watermark go on every page?

By default, yes. You can also apply it to only odd or even pages, every page except the first, or a specific range like 1-3, 5.

Can I use my own logo as the watermark?

Yes. Upload a PNG or JPG image and set what percentage of the page width it should take up. A transparent PNG works best, since there is no background box around the logo.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The watermark is drawn entirely in your browser with JavaScript, and the PDF is never sent anywhere.

Does this tool add its own watermark or logo to my file?

No. The only watermark added is the text or image you choose yourself; the tool never stamps its own branding on your document.
