About the PDF to Excel

A PDF has no real rows or columns, only text positioned on a page, so turning one into a spreadsheet is always a best-effort guess. This tool groups text that shares the same vertical position into a row, then lines up similar horizontal starting points across the page into columns, and saves the result as an .xlsx file with one sheet per page. It works best on PDFs that already look like a table, such as invoices or exported reports, and is read entirely in your browser.

How to use the PDF to Excel

  1. Choose or drop the PDF you want to convert.
  2. Click Convert to Excel.
  3. Download the .xlsx file and open it in Excel, Google Sheets or LibreOffice Calc.

Features

  • Groups text into rows and columns automatically
  • One sheet per PDF page
  • Works well on invoices and exported, already-tabular reports
  • Private - the PDF is never uploaded
  • No sign up, no watermark

When this works well, and when it does not

PDFs that already look like a table - invoices, bank statements, exported reports with clear columns - convert well, because their text lines up neatly into rows and columns. Free-flowing text such as letters or articles has no real columns to detect, so it often lands in a single column instead. Merged cells, multi-line cells and scanned (image-only) pages are not supported.

Why a scanned PDF will not convert

A scanned PDF is a photograph of a page with no selectable text underneath, so there is nothing for this tool to read. Converting a scan needs OCR (optical character recognition) first, which this tool does not perform; if you can select and copy the text in your PDF reader, it should convert.

Frequently asked questions

Will the columns line up perfectly?

On PDFs that already look like a table, usually yes. On free-flowing text there are no real columns to detect, so results are far less reliable - this is always a best-effort extraction, not an exact table reader.

Can I convert a scanned PDF?

Only if it already has selectable text. A scanned page with no text layer has nothing for this tool to extract, since it does not perform OCR.

How are multiple pages handled?

Each page of the PDF becomes its own sheet in the spreadsheet, named "Page 1", "Page 2" and so on.

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. The whole conversion runs in your browser using JavaScript, and the file never leaves your device.
